Big Dog Motorcycles Appoints Doug Stuhlsatz As General Counsel

Big Dog Motorcycles, the leading designer and manufacturer of high performance, highly-styled heavyweight cruisers, announced that Doug Stuhlsatz has been named the company’s first in-house general counsel. In this newly created position, Stuhlsatz will have responsibility for all legal affairs of the cruiser company including all vendor contract negotiations, dealer agreements and compliance, real estate, and intellectual property related matters. His skills are expected to be particularly integral as Big Dog Motorcycles continues to design more proprietary bike components, expand its workforce, factory, and dealer network, build vendor relationships, name additional branded dealerships, and strengthen its focus on parts, accessories, clothing, and brand consistency. Sheldon Coleman, company founder and CEO, announced the appointment of Stuhlsatz, who comes to the $100 million company with nearly a decade of legal experience. Most recently, he served as Associate General Counsel at Bombardier Aerospace. There, Stuhlsatz was responsible for, among other things, negotiating sales contracts, vendor agreements, and real estate acquisitions. He also provided advice on employment matters, product issues, insurance, and corporate policy compliance. “With Big Dog Motorcycles’ transformation into a manufacturer who has attained true OEM status, Doug’s deep legal experience and sound business judgment make him an excellent choice to take on this new role,” stated Coleman. “He complements our senior management team extremely well and the talent of people who will be working with him.” Stuhlsatz holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science & Management from Kansas State University and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas. His professional and volunteer contributions to the city were recently recognized by The Wichita Business Journal, naming Stuhlsatz one of Wichita’s 40 Under 40. Nominated by colleagues, business associates, or acquaintances, members of this select group are chosen annually for the significant contributions they are making to the local economy and community.
